About The Unit: Globus ( delivers commercial-quality, cloud-based software application and platform services to global, non-profit research communities, as a sustainable, non-profit business within The University of Chicago. Director of Product Management and Design leads complex information technology projects and ensures the success of enterprise-level application roll-outs. Leads the collaborative process of conducting business reviews by analyzing user requirements, documenting current systems, and gathering technical and business requirements from internal and external sources for enterprise-wide technology initiatives to determine system configuration and customization. Determines and develops architectural approaches and solutions and develops recommendations of how to proceed with the development of applications. Develops high-level architectural designs that reconcile the gathered requirements and address stakeholder concerns. Designs, develops, and implements short- and long-term solutions to information technology needs through new and existing applications, systems architecture, network systems, and application infrastructures. Codes, tests, debugs, and implements software solutions. Provides ongoing enterprise system support. Researches, develops, and recommends architectural policies and practices for current and future University-wide information technology initiatives. Researches and analyzes trends and directions in information technology to actively maintain industry currency and appropriately revise architectural models. May be involved in the requirements definition and software vendor selection phase. May contribute in the planning of overall organizational IT strategy.

Unit Job Summary: As member of the Globus leadership team, and reporting to the Globus project lead, the Director of Product Management and Design will lead and manage the product management and user experience team to meet the Globus mission. Providing cross-functional collaboration and coordination, this role will grow Globus product offering by identifying potential new products and enhancing the current products, and manage lifecycle of features from conception to delivery, ensuring product goals are met, and aligned with business goals. General responsibilities include: - Identify market requirements and understand customer needs to define, scope and prioritize new features and enhancements for Globus SaaS and PaaS. Generate new ideas and product directions that improve customer experience, and drive growth. - Implement customer and market insights into actionable business and product requirements to drive product definition and roadmap. Produce definition documents with user stories and quality attributes to communicate product definition internally. - Maintain ongoing communication with key customers via regular meetings, customer forums, and conferences and events. Manage customer engagements that are targeted at product features and enhancements. - Lead the user experience team to define user experience across all interfaces of the product. - Lead the product management team to ensure product definition and design across target markets are aligned with product vision and coherent across target markets. - As member of leadership team, contributions towards strategic planning, including market analysis, new product introduction and go-to market strategy. - Work with others in the Globus team to identify and acquire new funding for Globus, via grants or customer contracts. - Cross-functional engagement to ensure product direction and priorities are well aligned across the Globus team: - Engineering: Engage with engineering to communicate product definition and scoping, review engineering design to ensure they address product requirements and validate delivered product meet specifications. Interface with the engineering team on resource management and execution timelines to ensure timely delivery of quality product - Sales: Assist in a technical pre-sales role and contribute to development of sales strategy. - Customer engagement: Contribute to development of customer engagement strategy, assist in material development, participate or lead customer meetings, and support engagement activities. Ensure customer feedback is gathered and applied to product definitions. - Marketing: In close collaboration with marketing team, drive product and feature launches: define product messaging and and assist in collateral generation and delivery. Contribute to development and execution of marketing strategy. - Support: Assist Globus support team to provide timely and quality responses to customers. Gather feedback and identify potential opportunities to improve or address issues in product based on helpdesk requests. - Professional services: Provide consulting expertise on design and architecture of solutions built on Globus product, participate in customer meetings to gather and understand use cases. - Internal education: Educate Globus sales, marketing, support, and professional services staff on new products and features. - Training/talk/tutorials: Act as a product evangelist to build awareness and understanding of Globus product and directions. Train users, prepare and deliver presentations and tutorials, and attend conferences and events.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science required. Masters degree in computer science preferred. Relevant technical training equivalent, such as a Project Management certification preferred.

Unit Experience: Required: A minimum of seven years of professional experience in a variety of progressively responsible information technology roles A minimum of five years of experience leading information technology implementation projects A minimum of five years of technical systems experience A minimum of two years of supervisory experience within an IT application development group Successful experience leading at least one sizable, complex project, preferably serving multiple and/or competing constituencies Experience in the evaluation of vendor software packages Preferred: Experience leading the evaluation of vendor software packages Experience managing large budgets
