About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: We are seeking a Research Professional 2 within the Section of Gastroenterology. The candidate will be responsible for the following: Perform independent investigative work (designing in vivo and in vitro experimental studies, acquiring and interpreting data, and assisting in writing of manuscripts). Supervise/mentor/direct lab personnel in their research projects. Perform administrative work in support of laboratory function (radiation safety, chemical safety, animal protocols, and IRB protocols). Establishing and culturing human intestinal organoids and maintaining an organoid repository. Explore the role of key genes and associated proteins in epithelial and immune cell function (work with mouse and human tissues and cells). Engineer viruses expressing wildtype and mutant variants of specific genes to establish key genes and proteins in epithelial and immune cell function. Provide services and reagents for research community (train personnel in organoid techniques, provide cell culture media and cell lines for maintaining organoids). Manage laboratory equipment (laser microdissection microscope, anaerobic chamber, cryostat) Report directly to Dr. Chang (PI) on a weekly basis and present at weekly laboratory meetings.

Unit Education: Doctoral degree in a field of study relevant to the research being conducted required.

Unit Experience: Three years of related experience required and a strong background in immunology and cell biology is required. Knowledge of mammalian cell culture, immunological methodology (flow cytometry and cell sorting), mouse husbandry are also required. Microbiological experience is needed, particularly with anaerobic microbes in an anaerobic chamber. Supervisory experience required.
