The Dean of Health Occupations, Physical Education, and Business will provide leadership and direction to four high demand health occupations programs (Dental Hygiene, Health Informatics & Information Management, Medical Lab Technology and Nursing) as well as Physical Education, and the Business Admin / Business Technology programs. The Dean will report directly to the Executive Vice President, Student Learning and Success.

Essential Functions and Duties:
1. Promote an environment supportive of the College mission, vision, strategic plan and core themes
2. Participate in the development and implementation of College-wide policies, procedures, guidelines and campus initiatives
3. Work with all campus constituencies to assure College-wide institutional needs are met
4. Support student-centered services and promote student success
5. Direct and lead students in transfer, professional-technical and continuing education programs and related activities
6. Provide leadership, direction and supervision to students, faculty and staff
7. Mediate faculty and student issues, grievances and appeals
8. Promote excellence in teaching by supporting and facilitating the development, review and revision of academic curricula/programs to assure their quality and relevancy
9. Evaluate and mentor faculty and staff; promote faculty and staff professional development
10. Ensure the coordination of course scheduling and faculty assignment process in collaboration with Enrollment Services
11. Manage and ensure applicable provisions of the negotiated faculty and classified employees collective bargaining agreements
12. Participate in and manage the selection, hiring and other personnel decisions associated with faculty and staff
13. Promote partnerships with constituents in the external educational, professional and business communities
14. Monitor and promote compliance with state, regional and specialized accreditation standards for the healthcare programs
15. Articulate with other institutions and the local community and ensure active advisory committees to meet workforce development needs
16. Develop, maintain and monitor fiscal resources as well as identify/secure external funding to support educational initiatives
17. Perform other duties as assigned (of a similar nature or level)

Required Education & Experience:

  • Master's Degree in a discipline related to the Division's academic fields
  • Three (3) years of academic or organizational leadership experience
  • College teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting

Knowledge Of:

  • Accreditation standards, certification and licensure requirements
  • Budgeting management and compliance for federal, state, and local funding sources
  • Computer applications to be able to use systems applicable to Health Occupations, PE and Business
  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Title IX
  • Acquiring/maintaining clinical sites through appropriate legal agreements as required for student training purposes

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships at multiple organizational levels in a diverse multicultural environment
  • Development of curricula, instructional practices and learning outcomes as they relate to Health Occupations, PE and Business
  • Time management, multi-tasking, and coordinating work outcomes/activities with multiple partners
  • Making effective presentations to individuals and/or groups in a multicultural environment
  • Preparing clear and concise written materials resulting in effective oral and written communication
  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within policy and legal guidelines
  • Communicating effectively with individuals at all levels inside and outside of the College
