Since Fall 2013, the University of San Diego has offered a fully online Master's of Education degree program designed for experienced educators interested in advancing their knowledge and practice through the integration of innovative pedagogies and inclusive and equitable instructional design. The program offers specializations in Literacy and Digital Learning, School Leadership, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), Inclusive Education and Universal Design for Learning, and Curriculum and Instruction. In addition to their specialization coursework, all students in the program will take a series of rigorous core courses in educational research methods, social justice and educational equity, and cognition and learning. The program culminates in a capstone seminar in which all candidates complete a classroom-focused action research project. There are three start dates through the year where students are admitted into the program. Courses run for seven week periods.
The position requires both administrative and faculty skills to manage the online courses, supervise admissions, coordinate faculty course assignments, and teach courses online. The program is housed within the Department of Learning and Teaching (DLT). The program director would be expected to work with the Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) unit at USD. The position is supported by a designated administrative assistant.
•Facilitate program coordination between the Department of Learning and Teaching (DLT) and Professional and Continuing Education (PCE), including course scheduling and registration, and faculty assignments
•Build and maintain a strong collaborative relationship with the extended program team (course developers, program coordinator, program marketer, and enrollment advisors housed in PCE.) Coordinate program reviews and facilitate faculty discussion and implementation of course and program improvements.
•Provide leadership in accreditation (WASC and CAEP), program evaluation and review and Assessment.
•Oversee the monitoring and updating of the online MEd website.
•Oversee maintenance of student and alumni database for research and tracking purposes, organize, with assistance of executive assistant, surveys and group feedback sessions with students and alums to support continuous program improvement.
•Develop and oversee dissemination of program materials including brochures, newsletters, and other promotional materials.
•Teach three courses per year.
Instructional Leadership and Support
•Attend faculty and department meetings and participate in department committees where appropriate.
•Stay up-to-date on best practices in program design and instructional practices in online education.
•Provide leadership in supporting faculty professional learning around online teaching and learning practices and models.
Student Advisement and Support
•Oversee coordination of admissions and applications reviews for online M.Ed. program.
•Oversee coordination of the academic advising for students enrolled in online M.Ed. programs, including oversight of maintenance of handbooks and email list serves.
•Oversee monitoring of student progress to provide support, mentoring and intervention on students' academic progress when needed.
The online M.Ed. director would be able to attend faculty events and qualify to participate in SOLES Global Study Courses.
This is a full-time, temporary, benefit-based position with an anticipated start date of July 15, 2017 and assignment end date of August 31, 2018. Assignment is renewable on a year-to-year basis.
•Doctoral degree in Education or a related field strongly preferred; can be substituted for a Master's degree with equivalent teaching experience in higher education
•Online teaching experience; expertise with technology and its application in educational settings
•Ability to work with others to create a collaborative learning community that is responsive to student and faculty needs
•Teaching experience in K-12 education and/or teacher education
