The Office of Information Technology at The College of New Jersey is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Support Specialist. The Support Specialist position is a full-time position in the User Supports Services department, reporting directly to the Associate Director for USS. As part of the USS team, the Support Specialist is responsible for providing technical support services to the campus community. Assignments include all aspects of client support, application support, and systems administration. This position functions independently with a focus on technical problem solving and providing quality customer service.

The Support Specialist position will act as liaison to the TCNJ community providing solutions to technical inquiries. Responsibilities include hardware/software support, technical consultations, project management, computer lab support, product acquisition, training/documentation, and advanced troubleshooting/analysis/problem-solving. Delivery of professional support services and customer satisfaction are critical expectations.


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a desktop support environment

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills

  • Proficiency in supporting PC/Mac computing environments and applications

  • Advanced analytical and technical problem solving skills

  • Ability to multitask in a demanding environment

  • Demonstrated customer-service orientation

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience within an academic environment

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently

  • Knowledge of disk imaging technologies

  • Experience using a service management system to process and prioritize work assignments

This position has the state title of Professional Services Specialist 3. It is included for membership in the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) bargaining unit. The starting salary for this position is Range U21, Step 1, $51,502.06. Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package with health, dental, and prescription plans as well as generous vacation and sick leave allowances.
