Bachelor’s Degree in Science. In lieu of a degree an Associate’s Degree with two (2) years full time related experience will be considered. Research experience directly related to a project/program in a Laboratory environment and competence in research activities including data management and performing standard lab experiences (i.e. PCR, bacterial gene transformation and gel electrophoresis).

Preferred Questions:
BS in Biochemistry. Relevant work experience and knowledge of molecular and cell biology.

Brief Description of Duties:

The successful Incumbent will carry out assignments with a professional competence in research activities under the general director of the Assistant Research Professor in the Lipid Cancer Lab utilizing skills including PCR, bacterial gene transformation, gel electrophoresis, gel purification and extraction, cell transfection, western blotting, immune-blotting, maxi-mini preps and purification of enzymes and lipids. The Duties include:

  • Perform enzyme purification and analysis, protein gel electrophoresis and immune blotting, cell transfection techniques, purification and analysis of lipids and various enzymatic assays as well as molecular biology approaches (PCR subclonning, DNA preparation and gel extraction).
  • Perform purification of key enzymes in sphingolipid metabolism (ceramidases, sphingosine kinase and protein phosphates).
  • Perform experiments in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology for sphingolipids, which require work on bacterial, cancer cell cultures and solid tumor specimens.
  • Complete research of scientific literature.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Research Assistant Professors, Research Scientists and or the Biobank medical and Scientific directors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
