Position Information: The School of Business Administration (SoBA) at the University of California, Riverside is a nationally ranked and internationally recognized AACSB-accredited business school; in 2017 the MBA Program was ranked among the Top 100 Schools in the nation. The Career Counselor & Manager of Employer Relations is responsible for managing employer relations functions along with developing, planning, organizing, and coordinating activities of the Career Development Center (CDC). The Career Counselor works closely with AGSM's diverse population of students and employers. Primary areas of responsibility include managing internal student career advising with regards to employment and external relations with employers. Provide career counseling and job search coaching; oversee technology, social media, and database management; event planning and coordination; monitors student workers. Performs employer research, including the identification of leads, initial screening, and cultivation of database contacts for the CDC Team regarding employment opportunities and promotional events aimed at developing stronger employer relations. Interacts with employers and students to ensure successful applications, preparation for interviews, and utilizes a comprehensive database system (GradLeader) to record, track, retrieve, and evaluate job postings, scheduled interviews, company informational sessions, company visits, networking receptions, guest speakers, events, career workshops, and student counseling sessions. Develops and manages CDC calendar of events and schedules employer outreach visits and company visits for groups of students. The major scope of the position will include, but not be limited to, career development & programming; managing employer relations; technology, database management, and media; event planning and management; and other functions as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career coaching techniques, career decision-making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Demonstrated administrative experience in an office environment with advanced knowledge on use of software programs such Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Manage social media communications for the AGSM Career Development Center (CDC)
Skill in accurate record keeping with strict attention to detail and proofreading abilities. Keyboarding skills to quickly and accurately prepare correspondence, job notices and reports.
Ability to work independently, as a team member, and with diverse corporate and student constituent groups. Comfortable in networking situations and ability to work with recruiters at job fairs.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and adherence to FERPA guidelines at all times.
Skill in communicating effectively and professionally using tact and diplomacy. Ability to identify customer's needs and maintain a commitment to excellent customer service. Skill in understanding and interpreting the department's policies and procedures to customers. Ability to interact effectively with department staff, students, as well as campus and external communities.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
Minimum of three years of experience in prioritizing and organizing tasks, documents and materials in a high volume, fast-paced office or similar setting. Past experience working in a university career center or recruiting firm and/or HR department. Able to develop marketing materials and to market students to employers and programming events to students.
Experience with On-Campus Recruiting within a University setting. Working knowledge of Career Management Systems such as GradLeader or Symplicity, or other software associated with recruiting/HR systems.
Skill in making appropriate decisions following established policies and past practices.
Use of advanced features in Excel for graphing and charting.
Skill in independently researching data, questioning outcomes, and making appropriate decisions for problem solving and requesting assistance from appropriate contacts.
Experience with an international student population.
