The College of Agriculture, Food and Environment department of Animal and Food Sciences seeks a Laboratory Technician Senior. The Laboratory Technician Senior will independently and collaboratively conduct research experiments in food safety and quality to assist the clients off the Food Systems Innovation Center (FSIC). Design and implement experiments. Operation of analytical instruments like Vitek, Spiral plater, autoclave, microscope and spectrophotometer. Enumeration and detection of food borne bacteria. Collection of scientific literature. Follow research protocols in accordance with UK environmental health and Safety regulations. Record results of the experiments. Collect data from the experiments. Electronically tabulate data using spreadsheets in computers. Analyze data for meaningful interpretation of results. Identification of potential funding sources and review of reports and protocols. Maintain and update lab inventory, equipment, and records. Ordering supplies and materials. Cleaning glassware, appliances and bench tops. Schedule the lab work of student interns (graduate and undergraduate). Help students to perform effective and accurate research.

Physical Requirements

Able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds. Potential for standing for long periods of time; as well as sitting at a computer for long periods of time. Exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste and food/bacterial pathogens.


Days; Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm


Microbiological skills with pathogens, media preparation and scientific analysis
