Business Analyst

Position Summary

Analyzes business processes and procedures and participates in business process re-engineering; analyzes and maintains currency of application solution options in the marketplace; facilitates requirements gathering and documents application solution requirements; participates in the short and long-term planning for application portfolio management roadmaps; acts as subject matter expert for business analysis standards, processes methodologies and tools; maintains a complete view of IT Services applications and products, and their dependencies; collaborates effectively with all constituents involved in product assessment, development and release; proactively seeks to make continuous improvements to business analysis process and tools; reports status and escalates issues to supervisor and management effectively; participates in team, departmental, and MSU IT meetings, committees and assignments.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in business analysis, encompassing business process re-engineering, requirements gathering, solution review and assessment, application configuration, and application testing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a master’s degree in computer science, information systems, business, or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; five to seven years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive business analysis experience, encompassing business process re-engineering, requirements gathering, solution review and assessment, application configuration, and application testing; strong analytic and diagnostic skillset; innovative and results-driven; ability to effectively plan and efficiently accomplish testing goals; advanced knowledge of multiple requirements gathering techniques, methodologies, and strategies; including their strengths and weaknesses; extensive technical skills covering products, technologies, domains and competitive knowledge; highly motivated with the ability to learn and research current technologies related to job assignments and bring possible resolutions to manager for approval; familiarity with other MSU Business areas, including their purpose, goals and common business tasks; skilled at building and fostering strong business relationships across different MSU teams; ability to mentor and develop all levels of business analyst professionals; ability to work independently on major projects and report progress to manager and customers; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment; effective negotiation skills; excellent oral and written communication skills.
