Position Summary

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Michigan State University is looking for an Information Technologist I.  Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide independent general (first level) diagnostic support to customers for a broad range of technical areas including but not limited to the following issues and fields
    1. All aspects of PC and monitor maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting and installation.

    2. Windows Server administration and maintenance.

    3. Familiar with Ticketing software and procedures.

    4. All aspects of laptop maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting and installation.

    5. All aspects of printer maintenance, upgrade, troubleshooting and installation.

    6. Smartphone/iPhone/tablet activation, syncing, connectivity and maximization.

    7. Malware/virus/adware identification, removal and resolution.

    8. All general software installations, maintenance and upgrades.

    9. Specialized database software installation, upgrades and maintenance (Advantage, Sportsoft,Recruit)

    10. All Internet/Wireless connectivity issues and problem resolution.

  • Work with customers to analyze problems or needs, resolve routine problems or questions and refer more complex issues to a more appropriate source including but not limited to:
    1. EBS and MSUNetID problem identification and resolution including two-factor issues.

    2. PCI/DSS network standard application including PCI compliant PC installation, maintenance and upgrades.

    3. PCI/DSS network standard printing including general and ticket (boca) printing.

    4. New user object creation and advanced knowledge of active directory (AD) relating to the Athletics AD and the Campusad AD.

    5. All network connectivity issues related to the University network and the Athletics VirtualLAN (VLAN).

    6. Game day ticket scanning preparation including wireless handheld scanners and server interaction.

    7. Game day 50/50 raffle preparation including wireless handheld scanners and server interaction.

    8. Troubleshoot game day wireless connectivity issues for visiting team staff.

  • Update, train and review the work of staff members in areas related to their assigned projects, develops new staff procedures in technical areas of expertise, and provides related professional IT support to the team including new employee network orientation and information
  • Monitor processing, identify and resolve abnormal or error conditions, performs initial machine and program loads, initiates backups, monitors environmental processes, and performs related responsibilities
  • Assist the director in server maintenance, installation and upgrade(s)
  • Act as a consultant to unit staff regarding applications and related support software
  • Monitor database applications for optimal performance including donor database (Advantage) server maintenance and monitoring
  • Monitor and maintenance of all server room functions and file server tape backups
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
