Position Summary

Performs general office duties and secretarial support to undergraduate advisors, faculty, and students; primary support for the on-line computer-based HPR system (Human Participation in Research); greets and assists students; answers multi-line telephone, files documents; assists with special event planning; types and proofreads publications; reproduces, collates and staples materials; updates bulletin boards, television screens and showcases; compiles and types office newsletters and uploads news and events on department website; maintains calendars, schedules and the working structure of the office; prepares materials for distribution through e-mail, campus mail and US mail; manages undergraduate general e-mail account; replenishes documents in a student area; assists with file management during student appointments and walk-in advising.


Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education with coursework in typing and shorthand; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, calendaring and/or presentation software; typing and filing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills and a work orientation that includes attention to details, problem solving, and taking initiative; ability to work as a team as well as independently; a commitment to learning for continuous improvement; familiarity with University business policies and procedures, proofreading and editing, and a clear understanding of English grammar; computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and internet browsers.
