** This position is open only to internal candidates in the Police Department.** The Police Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Police Lieutenant to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:* Supervisory police work involving the protection and safeguarding of human lives and property, including supervisory oversight of a broad department-wide operational area.* Patrol, investigations, administration, support services, parking, traffic, or planning. * Assisting with developing and implementing department operational goals, plans, and directives and may include performing some duties similar to subordinates during the course of a scheduled workday. The successful candidate will possess four years experience as a commissioned police officer with prior supervisory experience of sworn police personnel within a college or university law enforcement setting; active peace officer license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) or ability to attain same within six months of employment; Associates Degree in relevant field; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which would provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities:* Thorough knowledge of traffic, civil and criminal law, City ordinances, and all University rules and regulations* Thorough knowledge of modern principles, practices, equipment, and techniques of police administration, organization, and operation* Ability to plan, lay out, direct, and coordinate the work of multiple subordinates across assigned units* Ability to effectively communicate oral and written instructions to subordinates under normal and high stress conditions* Ability to effectively take command and act in a calm and effective manner in emergency and disaster situations* Proven ability to perform duties under stressful, challenging, and/or high risk conditions* Ability to train others in enforcement, regulatory, and investigative methods and procedures* High degree of integrity, moral character, and personal behavior* Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed and work supervised* Knowledge of and ability to support the functions and goals of a campus law enforcement agency* Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed* Ability and demonstrated experience in fostering positive employee relations through modeling of appropriate work behaviors
