Lecturer - Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment
POSITION: Lecturer in the Department of Sustainable Technology & the Built Environment (STBE), beginning August 15, 2017. This is a full-time position with benefits and the possibility of a multi-year contract.
DEPARTMENT: The STBE Department houses three academic programs: the BS in Sustainable Technology; the BS in Building Science, with three concentrations; and the MS in Technology, with four concentrations (http://tec.appstate.edu/). The Department includes 18 full-time faculty serving approximately 500 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students. Their work exemplifies a commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research, with specific emphases on renewable energy, resource conservation, and sustainable design and construction of healthy, high-performance buildings. Students in these programs have achieved notable successes in national and international competitions, including the Formula Sun Grand Prix and American Solar Challenge, the USDOE Race to Zero and Solar Decathlon, Solar Decathlon Europe, and USEPA P3 competitions.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses related to sustainability and renewable energy technology in the Sustainable Technology program and expand the professional contacts of the program in the renewable energy industry. Other responsibilities include participating in program and departmental service work, and maintaining and enhancing student/research labs.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned master’s or doctoral degree in a related field of technology, science or engineering is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience computer modeling of renewable energy systems, instrumentation, or in the design and installation of photovoltaic systems. Candidates with university-level teaching experience will be preferred.
