Faculty Position in Costume Design

Hofstra University’s Department of Drama and Dance seeks applications from innovative and collaborative artists to join our pool of adjunct faculty for and anticipated Adjunct Assistant Professor position to teach undergraduate courses in Costume Design.  The Adjunct Costume Design faculty member responsible for teaching introductory level makeup course and introductory level theatrical costume construction course. Possible over-hire costume construction work for the department season may also be available.

Hofstra University's Department of Drama and Dance program provides students with the opportunity to develop and hone their skills as performers, designers and technicians, and deepen their appreciation for these arts as they gain practical experience to pursue careers in the theater, dance and beyond. Many graduates have gone on to success in film, television, on Broadway and off-Broadway and as members or founders of renowned dance companies. The department presents six plays and two dance concerts per year, including our Shakespeare Festival, now in its 68th year. Facilities include the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, a large proscenium theater that seats more than 1,100, and the 200-seat Joan & Donald Schaeffer Black Box Theater.  Recently Hofstra unveiled a reconstruction of The Globe stage, the most historically accurate in North America to date.  Hofstra has been named one of the “9 Great New York Acting Schools and Universities” by Backstage.

Adjunct faculty collaborate with full-time theatre and dance faculty as well as technical staff in all facets of department functioning.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include: MFA in Theatre, or other terminal degree in Production/Design Area; Minimum two years teaching at the University level; Ability to teach undergraduate course in beginning makeup; Professional costume design experience; Excellent interpersonal; communication; collaborative and time management skills are essential.
