The successful Library Assistant is energetic, friendly, and service-oriented staff member who welcomes the opportunity to engage in a broad range of activities in an evolving library environment. The Library Assistant is a core member of the Library and Instructional Design team who performs many support activities involved in operating a library and will have primary responsibility for:
  • Event and program support – promoting upcoming events (social media, visual advertisements, written announcements), workshops, and learning opportunities, registering and communicating with participants, and follow-up activities.
  • Collection and web resource maintenance – keeping collection inventory, collection access improvements, troubleshooting problems with Treadwell Library, maintaining electronic guide quality, checking materials in and out with users; running circulation reports; contacting overdue borrowers and retrieving overdue materials
  • Maintaining course reserves –assembling course reading lists, identifying library materials, soliciting reserves from faculty, entering reserves into the library management system, and returning personal copies to faculty
  • Information Services - staffing the help desk and chat reference app, monitoring Ask a Librarian email, answering frontline questions when possible and referring users to librarians when more expertise is needed
  • Collecting and presenting data and statistics – includes library statistics for submission to various agencies, assessment statistics from events and workshops, and also collection, web usage, and user experience data

    • Bachelor's degree required

    • Event/program planning, library, office experience is a plus




    Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required


    a) Administrative Skills- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; customer-oriented; professional phone manner. Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions. Good organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy and high quality presentation standards. Must be able to function as a team player and be willing to take on additional duties as requested.



    b) Technical Skills- Facility with personal computers and related software applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internet based programs to create visuals
