(Job #17-39) Information Technology Consultant (Foundation), Academic Technology Support Specialist, $3,470-5,994/month. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt, benefitted position in the College of eLearning and Extended Education. Anticipated starting date is July 1, 2017.

Position Summary: Academic Technology in the College of Extended Education and eLearning is recruiting an Academic Technology Support Specialist (AT Support Specialist). Under direct supervision of the Director of Academic Technology, the AT Support Specialist will work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students in support of teaching and learning initiatives enabled by technology. This includes online, hybrid and face-to-face environments. The incumbent will have the primary responsibility for diagnosing, troubleshooting and coordinating academic technology support requests from faculty and students. This will include supporting the learning management system, developing and conducting trainings, and creating and curating resource materials for students, faculty and staff. This will also include facilitating video captioning, developing self-guided tutorials, and preparing other types of user documentation that contribute to creating optimal online learning experiences and ultimately, student success.

Duties:
Support to Faculty and Students (50%):
  • Act as a liaison and interface between faculty and students and academic technology team to resolve support requests in a timely responsive manner;
  • Work with instructional design team and LMS Support team to support faculty developing, redesigning or migrating online, hybrid/blended and technology enhanced face-to-face courses;
  • LMS administration support to faculty and student assisting them to use the LMS in a manner consistent with QOLT guidelines thereby creating quality learning opportunities and student success;
  • Use the LMS to provide academic course management and related services to faculty;
  • Assist faculty and students in the use of Academic Technology products (e.g. Turnitin, Turning Point clickers, Zoom) and their features;
  • Install, configure, and modify Academic Technology products;
Academic Technology Resource Evaluation and Needs Analysis (20%):
    Advise and assist faculty and students in the selection of available academic technology and sources to meet their needs;
  • Assist instructional design team in creating and selecting appropriate applications of academic technology to enhance student learning environment;
Academic Technology Support Data Administration (20%):
  • Develop and administer procedures for recording, assigning and tracking support requests;
  • Analyze support data and recommend mechanisms for improving the quality of academic technology support for faculty and students;
Training (10%):
  • Assist instructional design team and LMS Support team in the incorporation of technology into teaching and learning, including development of support resources such as a knowledge base and tutorials;
  • In consultation with instructional design and LMS Support teams, assess training needs for Academic Technology and develop and coordinate plans for training delivery.
Minimum qualifications:
  • A basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study.
  • Experience with Moodle and Canvas and associated academic technologies.
  • A basic understanding of the standard principles and terminology associated with Instructional Design.
  • Experience in multimedia systems.
Highly desirable:
  • Experience with HSU's Academic technology environment from both an instructor and student perspective
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to apply consultative skills to assess faculty and student needs and provide appropriate support.
  • Knowledge of information technology systems and/or applications, including campus wide systems and multimedia environments and access procedures.
  • Ability to integrate multiple applications and/or systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated expertise in the use of a wide variety of web and multimedia development software.
  • Proficiency using standard academic technology. Examples include synchronous and asynchronous learning technologies such as a learning management system (e.g., Canvas), Photoshop, Zoom, Camtasia and other related learning technologies;
  • Ability to analyze data requirements and research data availability and access methods.
  • Knowledge of data administration principles and techniques.
  • Ability to coordinate and implement data exchanges and conversions.
  • Knowledge of training theory and practices demonstrated by an ability to develop and deliver technical training and user documentation.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills in working with users to interpret needs and provide appropriate solutions. -The incumbent must have a strong commitment to customer service, be proactive, and self-motivated in order to support the diverse needs of faculty and student.
  • Ability to integrate multiple applications and/or systems.
  • Ability to support and participate in multiple projects, and to work collaboratively with faculty and staff as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
