At Stony Brook Medicine, a Programmer Analyst/Rules Application Specialist is a valuable member of our team, who will develop and support all clinical systems that the department is responsible for. The incumbent may be assigned to a project team as part of technical build resource, or support any production systems to ensure the availability of the applications. The Senior Programmer/Analyst may also oversee the work of Lead Programmer/Analysts as needed.
The Programmer Analyst/Rules Application Specialist will be responsible for the build of rules in Cerner Millennium, and also investigating and resolving Cerner application issues using core Cerner tools such as Bedrock, Discern, Core Code Builder, Core Event Manager, and Ops View Scheduler. Daily responsibilities will include researching and building new functionality as needed, working with clinical end users and the vendor to determine the best and most innovative solutions.
Duties may include the following but are not limited to:
- Reviews, analyzes and implements change/enhancement requests to production applications.
- Investigates and helps resolve application problems.
- Maintain stability and reliability of all systems.
- Participate in new projects when appropriate.
- Keep management informed of project status.
- Assists in testing system functionality as well as validating application integrity.
- Ensure the addition of new applications are technically sound.
- Participate in Cerner application upgrades and implementations.
- Debug system problems as needed (his/her own, as well as programs written by others).
- Participate in system design sessions.
- Adhere to coding guidelines and standards of Information technology.
- Adhere to customer service standards.
- Provide oncall/recall support.
- Provide reporting needs when necessary.
- Document all work according to standards.
Required: Minimum three (3) years of IT experience in a complex healthcare environment, preferably in academic medical centers or tertiary care settings. Bachelors Degree in computer science, information systems or related field will ensure that the incumbent has the conceptual skills required for this demanding role. In lieu of computer science or information systems related degree, 4-5 years of experience in a healthcare related IT environment. IT related experience that demonstrates a thorough understanding of the standard tools, workflow processes, and/or procedures and concepts used in the deployment and development of application software necessary to run the healthcare systems business, clinical or financial systems.
Preferred: Experience with Cerner Millennium, Cerner Discern apps, CCL, FSI Interfaces, Cerner Bedrock Wizard, Citrix Applications, XML, LINUX, ORACLE, FTP protocol.
