Role Summary

The Operational Risk Management Examiner will be a member of a dedicated team responsible for the supervision of Synchrony Financial. This Specialist Examiner position will have expertise in one of the following: Operational Risk Management (ORM), Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and/or Bank Secrecy Act (BSA). Supervisory oversight is primarily accomplished through the Federal Reserve's Consolidated Supervision program.

As part of ongoing large banking organization supervisor, the successful candidate must understand the risk profile, management structure, major business lines, strategic plans, and material risk exposures of the supervised institution. The individual must provide clear, concise supervisory messages in a timely manner and develop good working relationships with numerous stakeholders, including the institution's management, Reserve Bank (RB) management, Board of Governors staff, and other functional regulators.

The Operational Risk Management Examiner must conduct routine and enhanced continuous monitoring activities of the institution's business lines and participate in the development of the overall risk assessment of the organization relative to ORM, ERM and/or BSA. The ideal candidate in this role will lead and participate on target reviews of the organization and participate on examination conducted by the primary regulator. This position will also prepare ad hoc assessments for central point of contact (CPC) and RB management and perform issue follow-up.

Education/Professional Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in business or finance desirable.
  • 8+ years' experience in ORM, ERM, and/or BSA in a large or regional banking organization (over $10 billion in assets).

Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of risk control self-assessment (RCSA) processes and procedures.
  • Fundamental understanding of enterprise-wide key risk indicators (KRIs) and key performance measures (KPM).
  • Knowledge of operational loss forecasting.
  • Familiarity with model risk management guidance.
  • Regulatory examination experience and examiner commission are preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidance related to LFBO and the Consolidated Supervision Framework for Large Financial

  • Ability to negotiate effectively, resolve conflicts to achieve supervisory goals, and build effective working partnerships.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate complex and sensitive issues, analytical outcomes, and supervisory concerns.
  • Capacity to identify and pursue multiple initiatives simultaneously, effectively prioritizes work, and delivers superior results with minimal supervision.
  • A strong commitment to keep Reserve Bank management and appropriate stakeholders informed on the condition, changes in risk profile, and significant credit events affecting the institution.
  • Travel is required, up to 60%.
