Florida State University Research Foundation and Office of Commercialization
This Business Specialist position will have a dual reporting role between FSU Research Foundation and the Office of Commercialization. The position will be responsible for managing the royalty and license agreements by updating reports, tracking payments and receivables. Makes use of database and other tracking methods to monitor various legal fees associated with patent, copyright and licensing cost that are processed through the FSU Research Foundation. Prepares monthly reports such as the administrative costs distribution, and the Indirect Cost Allocation; performs other duties related to the accounting function including budget reconciliation for contracts and grants awards. The position will also provide oversight for office administrative activities (Research Foundation), ongoing support and assistance to the Director and to the Grants Analysts as needed.
In addition, the Business Specialist supports commercialization efforts by processing legal invoices, Invention Disclosures Forms (IDF), and patent stipend allotments to FSU researchers; adds new technologies to the database for tracking and compliance purposes, and provides ongoing assistance with routine matters involving Intellectually Property related legal documents. Support of various events and special projects will be an expectation in this role as well.
Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience; or high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to six years.
Experience working with and managing confidential or sensitive information
Experience with payment processes, account receivable transactions, and account reconciliation
Computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook or comparable software
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Experience with contract or grant management, or accounting.
Knowledgeable of office practices, procedures and etiquette
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Experience working with contractual agreements, specifically royalty and license agreements.
Experience with data compilation (financial and non-financial), create various reports, and prepare complex reconciliations.
Knowledgeable of and the ability to interpret and apply related university policies, procedures, principles, and practices
Anticipated Salary Range
$34-37K Salary Range
This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
