Strategic Content Manager

Job Description Summary:
Provide management oversight of digital newsroom. Research, write, edit, and proofread content for various storytelling platforms and audiences. Maintain relationships with key campus stakeholders and generate news and feature stories as well as marketing communications copy to support strategic priorities and build awareness of the university. Plan, write and edit marketing materials for student recruitment and admission. Consult with Dean of Admissions on an annual basis to plan and write comprehensive communication plans for prospective students, applicants and admitted students. Write and edit the text for email marketing and student recruitment/engagement communication plans. Coordinate with other content production and digital team members to tell stories in creative ways, including through videography, photography, and infographics. Daily assignments will vary, and could include crafting advertising copy, website content, social media posts, blog posts, infographics, video scripts, speeches, talking points, newsletters, press releases, and other material. Contribute to VOICE magazine. Maintain an editorial calendar and attend campus events to ensure content on the university's digital newsroom and social media channels is fresh, relevant, and lively. Assist the PR Director as needed.

Specific Duties:

Oversee the digital newsroom. Write and edit news, feature, and marketing copy for internal and external audiences.

Meet, interview, and collaborate with campus stakeholders to identify stories and craft appropriate messages.

Plan, write, edit and revise text for marketing materials for student recruitment and admission.

On an annual basis and in consultation with the Dean of Admission, plan comprehensive communication plans for prospective students, applicants, and admitted students. Write, edit and maintain the text of the email communication plan and revise as needed.

Planning and administrative tasks, including managing digital newsroom, coordinating photography, and maintaining a rich editorial calendar.

Attend campus events such as commencements, lectures, competitions, cultural celebrations, and town halls.

Assist PR Director as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

4 years of Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications.

Writing for social media channels.

Solid writing and copy editing skills; knowledge of basic style guides such as AP and Chicago Manual of Style.

Understanding of types of content styles used on social media channels including: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter

Familiarity with website content management systems (Word Press).

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with a higher education environment. This position requires advanced writing skills and sound judgment in communicating outreach messages to internal/external audiences related to the University of La Verne as well as demonstrate sound news judgment. The incumbent is expected to be a muli-tasker and quick thinker, staying up to date on developing higher education trends and communication strategies. The position requires a great deal of flexibility, including the participation in events and projects during weekends and early evening hours. Strong organizational and time-management skills. A creative mind for storytelling. Creative writing skills relevant for various platforms and media.
