The Director of Multicultural Affairs will bring leadership, vision, integrity and a team-oriented philosophy to the diversity and inclusion efforts at UNC Asheville which directly impact the University's ability to successfully serve students. The Director is a leading thinker for the University on matters of equity, diversity and inclusion. The Director will lead the development of a vision and effective strategy that champions the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive educational environment that benefits the entire community.
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Director will
- Provide leadership for Multicultural Student Programs,
- Assist the Admissions department with the recruitment efforts of multicultural students,
- Serve as the liaison for Community Outreach Initiatives and partnerships that directly serve and benefit multicultural students,
- Manage the Intercultural Center in partnership with Highsmith Union, and
- Serve as an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs and units directly charged with enhancing student life experiences outside the classroom.
The position requires significant responsibility for the development and implementation of transformative student learning experiences, innovative strategies to increase minority student retention, and programs and services which enhance the overall success of multicultural students.This position requires possession of a Master's degree in College Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or a closely related field. In addition, candidates should have at least 2 years' experience in higher education settings working in a capacity that advances diversity and inclusion.
