Part time Registered Professional Nurse
The Registered Professional Nurse is a trained, licensed professional nurse who is an employee of Hofstra University Health and Wellness Center. In the ambulatory care setting, the staff nurse provides nursing care that is not limited to but includes: performing routine medical office procedures and testing, administration of medications, patient triage, teaching, referral and follow up care. In addition, the registered professional nurse also supports the patient flow for the advanced practitioner patient visits, arranging and monitoring the visit flow of the patient chart. The Registered Professional Nurse is a member of the Health and Wellness Center staff and is directly supervised by the Director of the Health and Wellness Center and the Clinical Assistant Director of the Health and Wellness Center.
Assesses patients and recognizes the need for and performs office procedures and tests routine in an ambulatory care setting and consistent with the health services policies and philosophies.
•Identifies common and recurring nursing needs of the patient and delivers them as defined by the nursing practice parameters of the state licensing board.
•Assists patients to achieve health care goals.
•Identifies patient education needs, provides instructions or referrals to appropriate provider.
•Documents observations, care given, and patient outcomes.
•Communicates effectively with the health care team to improve patient care.
•Demonstrates patient advocacy, assuring patients rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
•Independently performs assigned duties and responsibilities.
•Acts as a role model for students.
•Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Outreach and Education
•Seeks educational opportunities for professional growth, sharing information learned with other staff as appropriate.
•Maintains active membership in national and regional professional health organizations.
•Attends and/or participates in University meetings and in-service offerings.
•Serves as an advocate for student health on campus, including communication of information about the Health and Wellness Center’s services to the student population.
This part-time position offers variable weekday hours and some weekend coverage, approximately twenty (20) hours per week, subject to the operating requirements of the Center.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, with a graduate level degree (MSN) or undergraduate degree (BSN) or (AAS) in Nursing. An active, current New York State license. A minimum of two years experience as an RN, with at least one year in an ambulatory care setting, and with a strong interest in young adult clinical health services. CPR certification.
