Job description

Duties: The Research Specialist D will perform independent science projects including experimental design, analysis, and comparison to published data. S/he will supervise graduate and undergraduate students on protein purification, quantitation, and SDS Gel analysis. The incumbent will demonstrate and supervise methods to a new Preclinical biomarker lab, helping to transfer technologies developed in the lab to the Preclinical lab.
The Research Specialist D will also manage interactions between a team of researchers at the Mayo Clinic, MN, and UPenn, and demonstrate techniques to new hires in an emerging biomarker lab. Manage sample coding and handling. Manage all purchasing, obtaining quotes, judging purchase options, service contracts, for the lab. Manage lab organization and stocks in Zaret lab. Maintain radiation safety and monitoring in the lab. Keeping service contracts operative and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications: The minimum of a Master's degree and 3 to 5 years of post-graduate research experience in molecular biology, protein purification and characterization or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Must have published scientific papers in peer reviewed journals related to research. Must be able to work from a laboratory protocol with initial supervision and then perform independently. Must be able to perform research, after instruction, independently and without close supervision. Experience in managing a lab including running equipment, ordering and teaching others. Good interpersonal skills, working with people and managing interactions.
