Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. The Graphic Design Program, Department of the Arts, at the American University in Cairo is seeking applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor in Graphic Design to begin in the Fall of 2017. The successful applicant will be required to teach 6 courses each academic year (3 courses per semester). These will be practical/technical and conceptual undergraduate courses in Graphic Design, as well as in special topics within the applicant's expertise. The position also carries administrative responsibilities at the department, school, and university levels. The initial appointment is for a three-year term subject to renewal.
MFA or terminal degree in Graphic Design or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will teach all levels of Graphic Design, Arabic Typography, and other courses every academic year. Applicants should also have a thorough knowledge of design history, theory, and practice. Experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with 5-7 years of experience in the design industry in the Arab world and/or globally. Evidence of extensive and successful professional practice, including experience in various graphic design media and production environments is required. All applicants must have a solid understanding of the design market in Egypt and the Arab world. At least 3 years of successful teaching experience at the university level is strongly preferred.
