The basic function of the Senior Bookstore Assistant- Aurora Campus is to assist the Assistant Bookstore Manager with the daily operations of the store including supervising night part-time staff and all store closing functions. This position will also serve as a liaison between the two campus stores in matters regarding merchandise inventories, promotions and displays.


Provide customer assistance and operate the cash register in the sale of merchandise.

Assist the General Merchandise Buyer with inventory management including data entry and ordering of designated merchandise as assigned.

Supervise the functions of the shipping and receiving of merchandise to and from Sugar Grove, including the accurate receiving of all shipments on the computer, preparing and processing returns, and transferring of books and supplies to Sugar Grove as needed.

Assist with supervision and training of student and part time staff. Responsible for Aurora Campus Store closing procedures including accurate count down of registers, and balancing buyback books and funds.

Maintain all displays of merchandise in a consistent fashion with the Sugar Grove store, making store visits to Sugar Grove as needed.

Assist with book buybacks and rental returns.

Provide direction and supervision of the store in the absence of the Assistant Bookstore Manager.

Prepare daily and monthly cash reports as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Bookstore Assistant Manager or Manager.

Position Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework in business or computers preferred; associates degree preferred.

Two years related work experience in retail required to include:
  • Point of sale systems.

  • Sales and customer service experience.

  • Cash receipts and record keeping.

  • Store merchandising.

Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.

Ability to communicate effectively with and relate to all levels of college faculty, staff, and student populations. Strong written/oral communication skills.

Valid Illinois drivers license and ability to travel between all Waubonsee Community College campuses as needed.

Computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Software programs required. Knowledge of computerized inventory systems preferred

Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store weighing 0–50 pounds.
