About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: The Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences (MAPSS) at the University of Chicago invites applications for the position of Associate Director. The successful applicant will work closely with our front office and academic staff, with particular responsibility for training our preceptors and post-doctoral instructors for best practices for student advising and PhD placement. The applicant will serve as a core member of MAPSS admission team, reading applications as a first or second reader, and participating in final admission and award decisions. The Associate Director will assist the Managing Director in all other matters pertaining to program marketing, recruitment, staff hiring, staff training, budgeting, external communications, program development, and student placement. Finally, the Associate Director will teach two graduate courses of his or her own design; support and write letters of recommendation for PhD applicants; hire and manage teaching assistants; and advise up to 5 annual MA theses.

Unit Education: Applicants must have the PhD in-hand by August 31, 2017.

Unit Experience: A minimum of three years administrative, managerial, or related experience required. Prior teaching experience is required. Familiarity with the University of Chicago's faculty and academic resources is strongly preferred.
