Communications Content Specialist

The communications content specialist is a communication professional who serves as a writer and copy editor for print and online publications and creator/manager for communications projects in University Communications. "Journey" is the minimum competency level necessary in public communications content specialist positions in University Communications. The position's broad skill set requirements involve magazine writing and web writing, news, social media and audio and/or visual across electronic and print media

  1. Primary function: Research, writing, editing stories for print and online publications/sites, with the primary focus of informing internal and external audiences and constituencies about the University's research, programs, arts and creative programs, services, events, faculty, staff and students. This includes managing all needs for the story, such as scheduling any needed photography and consulting with the art director. He/she is expected to be knowledgeable about research, programs, activities, faculty and students throughout the professional schools, departments, programs and other areas. Writing features and shorter pieces, editing and helping facilitate production of print and online editions of UNCG Magazine, UNCG Research Magazine and Campus Weekly as well as UNCG Now website (70% of time)
  2. Communications projects creation, writing and editing: This includes work on pieces involving various media, including video and photography. Assignments from social media manager. Assignments for Assoc. VC for Communications. Assignments involving media relations or special events. Other duties as assigned. (30% of time)


Minimum Qualifications

BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN A DISCIPLINE RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Journalism, English, Communications or related public information experience.
