Position Summary

Religion, Ritual and Symbolic Form: MSU’s Department of History and Department Anthropology seek a fixed term (non-tenure system) faculty member whose research and teaching focuses on religion, ritual and symbolic form in East Asia. We have a very strong preference for a scholar who also considers issues of gender and comparative sexualities and whose research is centered in Japan. The successful applicant will have a joint, fixed-term, academic-year (9 month) appointment starting August 16, 2017. Teaching experience in a broad range of courses and the ability to teach in Anthropology and History classes at the undergraduate level are required.  An impressive scholarly publication record is required. The position also requires managing the Department of History’s programming with the MSU Museum, so exhibition development and curation experience is preferred. The teaching load is two courses—one in History and one in Anthropology.

Doctorate -Anthropology or History

Minimum Requirements

Teaching experience in a broad range of courses and the ability to teach in Anthropology and History classes at the undergraduate level are required. An impressive scholarly publication record is required.

Desired Qualifications

Exhibition development and curation experience is preferred.
