Essential functions of this position:
The primary purpose of this position is to service and repair heating, air conditioning, ventilation systems, pumps, motors, seals, valves, controls, piping and other associated mechanical devices. This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow, ice and/or debris removal under the direction of a supervisor.
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Basic understanding of the operation and maintenance of building hot water & chilled water systems and related equipment in an industrial setting and/or a mechanical background supporting and ability to learn these systems
Basic knowledge of refrigeration circuit
Efficient use of HVAC hand tools and diagnostic equipment including but not limited to; Torches, electrical meter, leak detection equipment and vacuum pumps
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 50+ pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations
The ability to perform tasks associated with the HVAC trade on a mechanics level with input from supervisors and technicians
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years of field experience in the mechanical and/or HVAC trades
Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Employee must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license, or be able to obtain one within two weeks of hiring
Must have EPA CFC certification for refrigerant recovery
Recruitment Range: $38,237 -$39,360
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 65
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
Months Per Year: 12 Months
Work Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 7:00AM - 4:00PM - on-call one week at a time on a rotating basis.
