Professor/ Leonard H. Goldenson Endowed Chair in Radio & Television Journalism
The Missouri School of Journalism invites applications for the Leonard H. Goldenson Endowed Chair in Radio and Television Journalism. The School has a long-standing reputation for cutting-edge research, teaching, and outreach. With an increasing need to improve the quality of American journalism while the media industry maneuvers through the fast-changing environment of broadcasting, satellite/cable, wireless, broadband and mobile, the Goldenson chair will collaborate with scholars and professionals to chart a path for the future of the profession. The Goldenson Chair has been endowed by gifts from local broadcasters, the ABC Affiliates Board and the ABC Television Network to improve journalism in the transition into the digital age.
The Endowed Chair, open effective August 2017 or January 2018 at the rank of tenured Professor will serve journalism as follows:
• Teach classes and lead student/faculty discussions of changes in the television and radio professions as new technologies become established in the industry.
• Demonstrate research excellence with a primary focus on broadcast journalism.
• Collaborate with scholars and professionals at the School of Journalism and elsewhere.
• Represent the Journalism School and the University of Missouri as a national expert on broadcast journalism and communicate the workings of journalism to audiences narrow and broad.
A Ph.D. in journalism, communication or related fields is required. The successful candidate must have an established research program including high impact publications befitting the rank of a tenured Professor at a Research One university. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with professionals, mentor graduate students, and help maintain a climate attractive to students of diverse backgrounds. Professional experience in journalism is desired.
