We are seeking applicants for one full time research assistant in the laboratory of Raj Morey, M.D. Dr. Morey's lab https://sites.duke.edu/moreylab/ is affiliated with the Brain Imaging and Analysis Center at Duke University and also the Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center at the Durham VA Medical Center.
The lab is conducting research in several areas including (i) functional and structural brain changes in patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), (ii) genetic effects on brain function in PTSD, and (iii) structural brain changes in traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Our research uses advanced neuroimaging methods such as functional MRI to visualize brain activity.
  • Candidates who like interacting with patients, working in an academic research environment, and have future career goals involving neuroscience research are encouraged to apply.
  • Responsibilities of the research assistant will include working under the direction of the PI on recruitment and enrollment of patients into research studies, working under the direction of the PI to administer research procedures such as MRI scans, working under the direction of the PI to assist in administering behavioral studies, and working under the direction of the PI to assist with psychiatric assessments.
  • Other research related activities will include working under the direction of the PI to collect and record research data, maintain data integrity, assist in data analysis with basic statistical methods, and assist in developing experimental procedures.
  • The candidate should be able to work under the direction of the PI to search scientific literature, create figures and tables from experimental data for manuscripts and grants.
  • Applicants should have a B.A. or B.S. in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or other related scientific fields.
  • Prior research experience in a clinical setting with clinical patients is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication, and teamwork are required.
  • Technical skills including basic statistical knowledge, use of basic computer applications and programming, and knowledge of cognitive psychology and neuroscience are a plus.
