The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Program Innovation, in the School of Nursing (SON), holds a ranked faculty position at the MGH Institute of Health Professions and reports directly to the Dean of the SON. The Associate Dean is a member of the SON Administrative Team. The Associate Dean's primary responsibility is to provide leadership for the SON's academic affairs and innovation in nursing education.

Responsibilities include working collaboratively with the SON Administrative Team to:

• Project the need for faculty and participate in hiring.

• Oversee the SONs program evaluation processes and implementation of program change based on evaluation data.

• Provide curriculum leadership and oversee compliance with CCNE accreditation standards between site visits and in compiling information for annual self-study reports.

• Periodically review and update curriculum in conjunction with course faculty and curriculum committee to ensure compliance with national guidelines and to ensure required professional and IHP competencies are incorporated into the curriculum.

• Develop faculty expertise in the areas of teaching, research, and service.

• Mentor new and novice faculty.

• Provide leadership for the SON's expansion and growth.

Specific duties include:

A. Increase innovation in program development

1. Collaborate with the Dean to develop and implement a focused plan to achieve enhanced levels of external funding for the school.

2. Conduct cost/benefit assessments of new programs.

3. Develop and implement a plan to ensure effective faculty teaching and advising.

4. Collaborate with the Dean to identify and develop opportunities for nurses to achieve a graduate degree.

5. Develop and participate in program evaluation and prepare reports to the Dean, faculty, and others as needed.

6. Develop processes and procedures for maintaining ongoing accreditation of all SON degree programs.

B. Graduate Programs Administration

1. Analyze resource needs related to teaching nursing (faculty, labs) and make recommendations to the Dean.

2. Provide leadership on the SON Administrative Team regarding SON direction and new program development.

3. As a member of the SON Administrative Team, set priorities for SON and assist in identifying and implementing new initiatives.

4. Serve as a resource on SON scholarship and development by maintaining communication between SON and Institute committees.

5. Determine program needs to enhance research/scholarship capacity and participate in budget planning/management as requested.

6. Prepare reports and drafts of proposals as requested by the Dean.

7. Monitor collection of student feedback data on program satisfaction measures (per evaluation plan) and program outcomes measures.

8. Represent SON to the Partners network community and to alumni as appropriate.

9. Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Student Support and Clinical Facilitation to develop and maintain a timely, effective response to concerns raised by faculty and/or students and to maintain a process of quality improvement.

10. Conduct regular external scan for opportunities to develop graduate nursing education.

11. Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Student Support and Clinical Facilitation to develop and retain appropriate clinical placements for graduate students, test new models of clinical education for advanced practice nurses, expand clinical opportunities for students, and engage in continuous evaluation of clinical placements.

C. Faculty Administration

1. Collaborate with SON Administrative Team to project faculty and program needs and assign faculty workloads.

2. Collaborate with faculty to develop research and scholarship consistent with faculty members' individualized work plans and goals.

3. Participate in student and faculty recruitment activities.

4. Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment Services to manage enrollment numbers.

5. Participate as ex-officio member on SON related faculty committees.

6. Mentor and assist faculty with student advisement.

7. Alternate with members of the SON Administrative Team to provide administrative leadership in the absence of the Dean.

D. Institute Governance

Represent the SON on Institute-level committees as assigned.

E. Teaching, Research, Scholarship

Participate in scholarly and teaching activities commensurate with rank.

F. Community and Professional Service

Participate in and assume a leadership role in appropriate professional associations and activities.

G. Other duties as assigned


Qualifications


The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in nursing or a related field, an MS degree in nursing, and prior experience in teaching at the graduate level and administering nursing education. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, experience with quality assurance, demonstrated ability to provide leadership, foster collaborative efforts, and a commitment to increasing diversity of faculty, staff, and students as well as a strong record of scholarship or research is required. Knowledge and experience of best practice curriculum development and evaluation is also highly valued. Prior experience with grantsmanship is desirable. Commitment to developing an ongoing program of research or scholarship is also required.
