Primary Function of Organization Unit: Campus Enterprises is NC State University's lead division of retail and hospitality organizations: One Card Office, University Dining, Wolfpack Outfitters (a division of NC State Bookstores), University Trademark Licensing, The Lonnie Poole Golf Course, Talley Student Center, and the Witherspoon Student Center. Each unit shares a common goal: deliver quality and efficient services with dedicated financial support for student activity and scholarships. University Dining provides campus-wide food services to students, staff, and faculty on the North Carolina State University campus. University Dining operates 14 dining areas, seven convenience stores, campus concessions, a nutritional counseling service, and a catering department. University Dining employs approximately 500 employees, of which 140 are EHRA and SHRA.
Essential Job Duties: This position works as a member of the management team for Case and Murphy Dining Halls on the NCSU Campus along with the General Manager and Unit Chef to ensure the best guest experience and quality meals. This position provides supervision at the Murphy Center for front of house and back of house employees during service hours to ensure University Dining standards of excellent customer service and food quality are being met, while maintaining all safety and sanitation policies and procedures. This position is responsible for opening and closing procedures. This position will interact with a dietitian on a regular basis regarding the development of the menu for the Murphy Dining Hall, and will ensure that all meal requests are met including catering events at outdoor practice fields. This position supports all athletic dining functions on campus. Responsibilities of this position include: * Oversee a staff of employees and ensure guest service and food quality is at an exceptional level * Schedule staff and makes staff assignments daily * Perform food production administrative work including purchasing and inventory controls * Ensure that all state and departmental health standards are being followed * Complete inventory and order food and non-food products using the C-Bord food ordering system * Monitor all areas of the dining hall to ensure customer needs are being met and that employees are responsive to customer request and expectations * Monitor work of staff and assesses when improvement/training is needed and determine when discipline is necessary for employees * Ensure that the food to be cooked, seasoned, and held correctly, according to the set recipes, and are presented in an attractive manner * Assist in the development of recipes and menus for the Murphy Center and the Vet School Cafe * Ability to work during special events on campus including nights and weekends
Department Required Skills: * Position is considered critical and must report to work during adverse weather even if the University is closed * Previous food service experience * Must be proficient in the use of computers and have the ability to learn new software programs * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Must be able to work rotating shifts; may be required to work overtime and some holidays. * Ability to stand for long periods of time * Ability to lift 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * At least three years of high volume food service supervisory experience * Previous Culinary experience * Basic cash handling skills * Culinary degree or certification
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * ServSafe Certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment * A valid North Carolina driver's license must be obtained within 60 days of start date * Licenses and certifications must be maintained as a condition of employment.
