MANAGING DIRECTOR, VIEST
Duties: The Managing Director will support all activities of the Vagelos Institute of Energy Science & Technology (VIEST). The Managing Director reports to and works in close partnership with the Director to administer a large, technically complex, and continuously evolving Institute. The Managing Director serves as manager and central administrator for the Institute, acting within the policies and procedures of the Institute and the University to achieve the goals of the Institute. Specific responsibilities include Institute-wide coordination and planning of activities, financial management, budget preparation, facilities support, assessment, proposal preparation, grant administration, human resources, general administration and resource allocation.
Qualifications: *Highly advanced professional discipline. M.D., Ph. D., Law degree or equivalent doctoral degree and 7 years to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
*Proven administrative, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
*Experience dealing with research related-administrative matters preferred.
*Demonstrated competence in budget management, large event planning, and coordination and facilitation of substantive research through administrative means.
*Seven years of experience with a research institute, academic institution, national laboratory, or commercial organization working within a scientific research setting preferred.
*Familiarity with the federal grant writing and administration process, for agencies such as the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, etc.
*Proven leadership, communication, and team building skills.
*Demonstrated ability to effectively address complex administrative issues.
*Highly developed ability to prepare written communications.
*Demonstrated experience coordinating projects involving many individual and institutional participants.
