The University of Virginia Library collects, curates, and facilitates access to a wide variety of music materials, ranging from printed music to audio/visual recordings and digital files. The person in this position participates in that mission by working with colleagues to provide access to music materials in the collection, including titles in multiple languages covering a wide variety of formats, genres and subjects. The Library participates in and contributes to national databases and name authority files. Reporting to the Manager of the Metadata Creation & Organization unit, the Music Metadata Librarian will be responsible for creating metadata for the Library's circulating music collections, and music materials in the Small Special Collections Library.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of various systems, such as library information systems, OCLC, etc.
Knowledge of a variety of metadata schemas, for example, MARC, etc., to provide descriptions and access to materials.
Ability to independently adhere to standards such as RDA, LCSH, LCRI, DCRM(B), and music and genre thesauri.
Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and productively in a team environment.
Demonstrated success in working within a project schedule.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Reading knowledge of one language in addition to English.
Ability to read musical notation.
