Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Physician Assistant II is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population.

Duties of a TH Physician Assistant II in the Cleft Palate Center may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Provide on-site 24 hour medical care and coverage, including assistance with procedures, routine follow up and emergency interventions, to patients admitted to a designated service, under the authority of the supervising physician
  • Obtain a comprehensive health history
  • Perform physical examinations using techniques of observation, inspection, auscultation, percussion and palpation
  • Issue orders for ongoing care which correlate with the patient's clinical condition and which are consistent with the approved management protocols. Discharge summaries, charting, collecting and collating data
  • Provide patient care which is appropriate to the patient's age, developmental maturity, and the functional status, and is consistent with the approved management protocols.
  • Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining blood specimens or initiating intravenous fluid/medication administration
  • Perform electrocardiograms
  • Perform procedures such as insertion and removal of central venous catheters, PICC lines, chest tubes and other skills on the skills list
  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications: Possess a Registered Physician Assistant License. One year of current experience as a Physician Assistant.

    Preferred Qualifications: Two years of current experience as a Physician Assistant in an Emergency Department. Plastic Surgery experience. Five years of Surgical experience. Fluent in Spanish.

    Special Notes: Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises. All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
