Description of Position
Under the direction of the Dean, Consumer Family Studies, the CFS Division Technician will perform a variety of duties to support the CFS laboratories (Culinary, Child Development and Fashion) and CFS Division classes.
These duties include purchasing and maintaining records for supplies, especially groceries and supplies used in the child development and fashion labs. This position maintains equipment, organization and cleanliness of labs as well as providing preparation for some lab experiences. Other duties will be assigned to support the CFS division. This position is assigned to the Visalia Campus.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to:
• Graduation from high school and
• Formal computer training and
• One year of related experience

Desirable Qualifications:
• Basic math skills (as used in shopping, record
keeping, measuring and cutting)
• Basic Computer skills – basic word processing,
basic Excel
• Knowledge of food (Identification of vegetables, fruits, meats and baked products. Recognition of freshness, ripeness and spoilage of food.)
• Basic culinary skills (beginning knife skills, bake, boil and fry as required in a recipe)
• Ability to work with fabric, art and craft supplies (follow directions to cut paper, prepare dough, select paints, cut fabric)
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Licenses and Other Requirements
• Valid driver's license.
• An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate"
by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.

Representative Duties
• Submission of work orders to repair any laboratory equipment, division lighting issues, lock problems or similar issues.
• Grocery and supply shopping as needed for classes often twice per week.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of all food, equipment, supplies and work surface areas.
• Maintain receipts and complete monthly statements.
• Work with dean, division chair and faculty to maintain
division supplies.
• Laundry to support division and other areas.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
• In laboratories, classrooms and offices
• Frequent travel in the region to purchase groceries and
• Frequent work with cleaning agents.
• Some evening and weekend hours.
Physical Abilities:
• Ability to operate a vehicle.
• Ability to operate a computer and office equipment.
• Ability to lift 60 pounds.
• Ability to work with hot ovens, pots and pans.
• Ability to utilize scissors, knives and other cutting instruments.
• Ability to read documents.
• Ability to stand and perform physical work for extended
periods of time.
• Ability to reach and lift from a variety of heights (for example retrieving items from high or low shelves.)

Conditions of Employment
• Salary is at Range 22 ($15.14 hourly) Initial placement on step AA
• Salary increase after 6 months of satisfactory service; increases annually thereafter.
• Minimum 5% increase if promoted.
• 10-working months probationary period.
• Union membership upon employment.
• PERS Retirement.

Screening Procedure

Meeting the minimum qualifications does not assure the candidate an interview. Application materials will be screened to determine the extent to which they meet the Representative Duties. A selected group of candidates will be invited for oral interviews. After initial interviews, finalists may be asked to return for a second interview.
