The Associate Director for Assessment and Communication will work with The Toppel Career Center and partners across the University of Miami campus (e.g., provost office, institutional research, employers, campus faculty and administrators), and colleagues within the field of career services to lead assessment projects related to the needs of campus and, when applicable, drawing upon state and national data. This position will take the lead role in the development and establishment of a variety of models, tools, and techniques to analyze the impact of career and professional development programming and interventions. Individual will coordinate and implement all aspects of marketing communication, planning, promotion, public relations, advertising, and market research. Works independently toward carrying out departmental objectives utilizing the knowledge and application of departmental and University policies and procedures. The Associate Director for Assessment and Communication reports directly to the Executive Director and will direct and coordinate the activities of other employees usually performing exempt and nonexempt tasks.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
•Assess the impact of career development programming on student learning; career exploration, decision making, and management; student engagement; retention; progress towards graduation; degree completion; and post-graduation success.
•Explore career and education outcomes for recent University of Miami graduates (e.g., destination, working status, salaries, graduate and professional school).
•Research topics of importance to career development and advancement of student professional development for attainment of post-graduation goals and success.
•Manage career center marketing and social media strategy

This position requires a highly motivated, independent researcher with experience managing projects from initial conception through publication of results. Responsibilities for the position include:

Assessment & Research
•Implement the Toppel Career Center Assessment Plan, initiate/organize annual assessment projects for Center, and assist with data for the Annual Report.
•Collaborate with the Toppel Career Center, Career Consortium, and institutional research, as well as faculty across campus, to define research questions of interest and design studies to examine questions that address the career/professional development of students and alumni.
•Lead assessment and research projects by designing and implementing data collection, analyzing qualitative and/or quantitative data, writing reports of findings, and guiding staff through interpretations of findings that advance career services, enhance the value of internship/ experiential education, and demonstrate the value of career services for the retention, graduation, and post-graduation success of students.
•Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables.

Capacity Building
•Oversee and revise implementation of the Toppel Career Center Assessment Plan that includes data collection and management, and contributes to the creation and maintenance of online tools and databases.
•Collaborate with institutional research team to advance mission of the Center and UM.
•Assist career center technology staff to appropriately protect and effectively use the data collected by technology systems.
•Identify funding opportunities and write grant proposals.

Leadership and Consultation
•Lead the Toppel Career Center Assessment Team and work collaboratively with career center staff on new and ongoing assessment and evaluation initiatives.
•Provide consultation to career center staff members interested in assessment projects.
•Serve on appropriate University assessment Committees, representing the Toppel Career Center.
•Work with multiple campus offices (e.g., admissions, alumni affairs, advancement, Corporate Relations, residence life, academic colleges, provost office, community & civic engagement, and budget and planning office) to partner on data collection and analysis, as well as use of assessment results.
•Build partnerships with academic departments across campus to encourage research on career development topics.
•Build and maintain ongoing relationships with allied research and policy organizations/associations on state and national levels.

Communication & Marketing
•Produce assessment and research reports, fact sheets, and other written materials, including analyses based on timely, systematically derived data.
•Assist career center communications, marketing, and outreach teams, as well as academic colleges and other campus partners to use data more effectively to share success stories of University of Miami students and graduates.
•Respond to requests for information about the Toppel Career Center’s assessments, research, and data to outside partners and stakeholders.
•Represent the Toppel Career Center outside of the organization at a variety of conferences and speaking engagements.
•Develop marketing and communication strategy, which falls in line with the Toppel Career Center strategic plan.
•Work with internal and external vendors to address a full range of marketing trends including key message development, competitive positioning, marketing mix management, and media selection.
•Implement a marketing mix which includes multimedia (Video and video conferencing, DVD, e-mail templates, online newsletters, animated graphics, photography and other forms of multimedia to be used for the Career Center’s website and for interactive presentations) and print publications (e.g., Toppel Programs & Services Brochure), reports (e.g., annual report, Graduate Student Survey, etc.), brochures, postcards, newsletters, banners, signage and other promotional literature).
•Manage the Career Center’s social media sites to ensure consistency of messaging and branding (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Foursquare, Blogger, Flickr, Instagram).
•Execute marketing and communications plans for all target markets, including key messaging, to students, alumni, and employers.
•Ensure that all marketing materials meet the highest possible standards for editorial quality and accuracy (following the University’s Identity Guidelines); advise Career Center staff on editorial standards and marketing guidelines in order to maintain and convey a consistently strong brand message.
•Assist the Career Center staff and Information Technology department with managing website design and content.
•Research technological developments and trends and implement findings to improve services.
•Update Career Center entries in campus publications (e.g., Admissions, Student Affairs Calendar, Orientation brochures, etc.); publicize events on campus-wide web calendar; write articles and publish ads in The Miami Hurricane (student newspaper); and keep students and Career Center staff informed via electronic bulletins and weekly staff meetings.
•Hire, train, supervise and evaluate graphic design/video/social media interns who help to carry out marketing and communication strategy.
•Assist with coordinating and marketing special events, programs, receptions, etc. and may present to classes and student organizations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA):
•Advanced skills with manipulation of data using Excel.
•Advanced skills with creation of visually appealing presentations using PPT or other presentation platform.
•Computer proficient – Required skills in developing and managing spreadsheets, manipulating and reporting data.
•Interest and skill in data mining/data analysis and research experience is preferred.
•Positive and professional written and oral expression is essential.
•Organizational, administrative and analytical capacities are necessary to provide customer service in person, by computer, and by phone with diverse populations.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment and act with discretion.
•Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment are crucial.
•Ability to write clear, concise instructional material and documentation.
•Ability to analyze assessment data, draw conclusions and provide meaningful observations.
•Ability to generate clear, concise reports that include the reporting of basic statistical information and outcomes to facilitate decision-making to achieve Toppel Career Center mission.
•Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple departments within an organization; the ability to work effectively with a broad range of diverse constituents.
•Outstanding strategic skills with a proven track record of follow-through and accomplishment.
•Strong evidence based and organizational track record.
•Familiarity with survey use and assessment tools such as Excel, Access, Campus Labs, and Qualtrics or other online program review and survey tools.
•Experience in a higher education, government or related data-driven environment.

Education Requirements:
• Master’s degree in appropriate related/appropriate field of study.

Work Experience Requirements:
