Basic Function/Overview:


Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:

• Teach short-term vocational courses for the School of Continuing Education
• Teach assigned noncredit vocational courses in accordance with assigned course outline of record
• Participate in curriculum development, program advisory board, learning outcome development and assessments, grants relevant to program, serve on College committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program, and participate in appropriate professional development activities
• Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities and College, division, and department policies

• Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods including online courses, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions
• Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees
• Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract
• Teach 1-30 lecture hours per week and complete corresponding service to the college hours to comprise a 40-hour week

Minimum Qualifications/Education & Experience:

A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
1. Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR
2. Associate’s Degree and six (6) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR
3. California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code § 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.) OR
4. A full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.
B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
C. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

Equivalencies:
Any associate’s degree or twenty-four (24) semester units of general education and professional certification or licensure in the discipline and six (6) years of full-time work experience in the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Successful teaching experience in a community college setting, particularly in vocational subjects
• Involvement in the development and implementation of projects that promote career technical education teaching and learning, and equity for noncredit students
• Experience developing and delivering contextualized curriculum
• Experience teaching disproportionately impacted and underprepared student populations
• Evidence of integrating College and Career Readiness Standards and other curricula standards into coursework that are relevant to adult learners
• Thorough understanding of policy, legislative issues, and grant-related mandates specific to noncredit programs
• Evidence of active engagement in professional development beyond attending conferences, such as publications, presentations, and facilitating workshops and panels
• Experience in leadership roles in curriculum development, implementation of SLOs, and classroom-based research
• Experience representing noncredit basic skills to key stakeholders including administration, local and statewide professional organizations, regional consortium consortia, and the community

The incumbent may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month contract position that begins in the 2017-18 academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9.

Selection Procedure:
