Responsibilities:

The Academic Advisor in the Bouve College of Health Sciences Enrollment Management and Student Services Office will provide effective, student-centered academic advising to undergraduate students. S/he will provide support for the Office of Student Services in the compilation of statistics, reports and data related to student enrollment, student academic progress, and course scheduling as requested. The Advisor will ensure that DARS degree audits are fully functioning and meet each program's curriculum requirements. This unique position offers the opportunity to provide leadership for first-year student advising and first-year programs, work with data and, as an academic advisor, manage a caseload of undergraduate students in the Bouve College of Health Sciences.

As undergraduate student life becomes more complex, the advisor will closely follow the progress of each student and take appropriate action in a timely fashion to help students succeed. Advisor will refer students to appropriate resources on campus related to for example: academic, experiential, financial, and behavioral health.

The advisor is charged with making the experience of the undergraduates in Bouve positive and promoting the student-centeredness of the College and University. The Academic Advisors are the liaisons for their students to the rest of the University. This team has the goal of treating each student holistically.

The Advisor must have excellent interpersonal skills for dealing effectively with a wide variety of personalities; they must have excellent organizational and assessment skills in order to plan, assess, facilitate and solve problems, and the ability to listen well, counsel and keep information confidential. They must be strong in analysis of data and the ability to work in a very fast-paced environment. They must be adaptable and flexible, especially able to work in an environment of change and multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

Additionally, the Advisor must work well with all Bouve faculty, the cooperative education coordinators, and university officials in being an advocate for our program.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree required. Two years previous experience in higher education preferred. Ability to work with students to support and advise students from first year through graduation. Effective presenter, demonstrating the ability to communicate both orally and in writing; experience with PowerPoint. Individual must work well under pressure and have excellent time-management skills, plus demonstrated advising/counseling ability. Individual must demonstrate the ability to set goals, take initiative, follow through, and organize effectively. Individual must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work with precision. The ability to relate to people of varied academic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds is required. Individual must be able to work as an integral member of a team, demonstrate leadership qualities and have the skills and knowledge to manage a project. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships essential to the position. Person must be able to develop, implement and promote innovative student services and supportive learning resources and programs.

processing and muscle biopsies.
