Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC), a unit of the University System of Georgia, are accepting applications for the position of Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). The College currently serves more than 3,000 students and is situated on a beautifully landscaped Southwest Atlanta, campus which is located ten minutes south of downtown Atlanta, and fifteen minutes north of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. 

 

The VPSA will report to the President and serves as a member of the administrative cabinet. The successful candidate will direct the planning, development and implementation of a wide range of policies and procedures, programs, services and activities to facilitate student development and cultivate creative approaches to providing student services while enhancing student life at the College. The position provides leadership and management supervision over the Division of Student Affairs.  

 

The Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for the following: Provides leadership for all programs affecting student development including but not limited to enrollment management {admissions, student outreach and access, registrar); career, personal, and transfer counseling; job placement; services for students with disabilities; student life; orientation and graduation. The VPSA develops and administers the Student Affairs budget, including forecasting, planning, and monitoring of expenditures; assuring that each unit adheres to budgetary guidelines. Oversees management and performance of grants assigned to Federal TRiO Programs. Supervises the accuracy, currency, revision, compilation, and publication of the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct. Develops a set of core outcomes for the Division of Student Affairs and measures and tracks annual performance against objectives; prepares and submits annual assessment reports to the President and the Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness; Acts as a manager for all direct reports, including managing day-to-day performance, producing and communicating written performance evaluations, approving requested time off, and other points of compliance with HR rules and regulations; Consults and confers with students, parents, and faculty as necessary on all Student Affairs matters; Participates and represents the college in professional organizations related to Student Affairs in higher education; and serves on various committees designated by the President.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications: 
A master's degree is required in counseling, college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field; A terminal degree is preferred; Minimum of 7 years of progressive administrative experience in higher education; have excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills; Demonstrated ability in the areas of leadership, budgetary/fiscal oversight, and staff supervision; Evidence of commitment to students and their development; team approach to problem solving; ability to manage multiple departments; knowledge of enrollment management strategies; knowledge of disciplinary and judicial processes; and a commitment to diversity and multiculturalism; and Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and software sufficient to function in a technology based environment.
