Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX seeks applicants for one or more positions as Assistant (tenure-track) or Associate (tenured) Professor of Chemistry in Organic Chemistry.

Duties

The department is seeking an extraordinary teacher. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional teaching skills or the potential to develop these skills. The successful candidate will teach courses and laboratories for Organic I and II and other courses as assigned (12 load hours) and will establish an undergraduate research program in organic chemistry. Teaching duties include course and laboratory development, assessment of assignments, and reporting of student learning objectives. Additional responsibilities include service, academic advising and recruiting of students, program development, and assessment, and may include operating and maintaining the department's 400 MHz multi-nuclear NMR.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of organic chemistry sufficient to teach the two-semester organic chemistry sequence with laboratories.
The skills to perform and direct original research in organic chemistry.
The ability to teach at a high level while pursuing an independent research program at an undergraduate institution.

Physical Requirements

Commensurate with a normal office environment plus the ability to climb a stepladder to perform cryogen fills on the NMR and change NMR samples.

Qualifications

Ph. D. in organic chemistry or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

A proven track record in teaching and research with undergraduates.
Experience in operation and maintenance of a multi-nuclear NMR.
