LAB RESEARCH ANALYST I - 2nd Shift - Carolina Cord Blood Bank
This is a Tuesday-Saturday 2nd shift opportunity.
Assist the CCBB laboratory management to administer, coordinate, and supervise the technical,regulatory, and administrative activities of the Carolinas Cord BloodBank (CCBB) Processing Laboratory Coordinate and participate in the processing, purification, analysis, and cryopreservation of hematopoietic cells obtained from umbilical cordblood, for hematopoietic stemcell transplantation. The individual filling this position will be an integral member of a team of physicians,nurses, collection specialists, and other professionals providing cord blood collection and processing servicesfor the Carolinas Cord BloodBank and the CORD:USE Cord Blood Bank.
# Coordinate and participate in a variety of complex technical tasks to include chemical,microscopic,bacteriologic, and other medical laboratory tests and examinations toobtain data for use in the diagnosisand treatment of disease; record determinations and results for review.Set up equipment,instruments,and apparatus required for specific laboratory tests. Operate manualand automatic laboratoryequipmentused to count cells; stain cells; separate cells; wash cells; separateplasma, red cells, buffy coats,mononuclear cell populations and stem cells; and cryopreserve cellsaccording to StandardOperatingProcedures (SOPs) for the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank.
# Provide technical guidance, instruction, and oversight of technicalstaff. Make work assignments and review the work of lower level employees. In concert with the CCBB laboratory managementarrangeteaching schedules for new employees and assist in their training.
# Evaluate collected laboratory data as outlined in the Carolinas CordBlood Bank SOPs; completelaboratory data forms and enter them into the electronic databaseforthe bank.
# Coordinate and participate in the preparation of culture media,chemicals, antibodies, reagents,andsolutions necessary for cell processing and cryopreservation.
# Upload quality control data into InsightTM, Sysmex's Web-based inter-laboratory quality assessment program, in accordance with CCBB laboratory procedures and Sysmex guidelines. Evaluate and establish new ranges for control material used on the hematology analyzer.
# Participate in the development of new laboratory procedures and techniques as they relate to public cord blood banking; plan, develop, and present workshops. Evaluate and recommend new technologies.Assist CCBB laboratory management in the development, validation, and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures. Assist in the management and coordination of operational policies and procedures; coordinate with research and collection staff on issues that affect laboratory services.
# Interact with regulatory and accrediting agencies and organizations to prepare for inspections,provide information, prepare reports, assist with education and training, and any other requests put forth bytheseorganizations.
# Implement, monitor, and assist in the evaluation of approved qualityassurance programs relating to calibration, validation, and maintenance of equipment. Ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations, prepare, and maintain applicable records.
# Maintain quality checks on safety of laboratory, including biohazards and insure maintenance of the facilities according to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and GoodManufacturing Practices (GMP).
# Prepare and submit to the CCBB laboratory management, technical reports reflecting volume of work,procedures utilized and test results; coordinate the preparation ofreports and analyses setting forthprogress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
