The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia maintains a global collection of nearly 14,000 objects. In support of our academic mission, the Museum provides opportunities for study and scholarship through direct engagement with the collection and virtual access through digital resources. Approximately 15% of the collection is available for research and exploration through our Online Collection, while our open storage and study areas, the Object Study Gallery, Print Study Gallery, Painting Storage, and off-site Art Storage, offer further insight into the collection for faculty, students, and the general public. The Registrar is a critical member of the Collections team in collaboration with Curatorial staff. The position is responsible for ensuring accurate object files, cataloguing and maintaining collection database records, managing art inventory control, and supporting programmatic needs related to physical access to the collection. Other responsibilities include accessioning; de-accessioning, in-coming and out-going loans, detailed and comparative condition reporting, managing intra-University loans, and collections management activities that improve and maintain optimum art storage and display. The position requires experience working with art collections and data management (preferably EmbARK software).
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate needs to possess methodical, precise work habits and strong attention to detail. Good communication skills. Ability to work in a busy environment and to work independently when necessary.
