The College of Agriculture, Food and Environment department of Plant & Soil Sciences is seeking a Scientist I. The Scientist I is an exciting full-time, field position. The successful candidate will perform field and office tasks under the direction of a Kentucky Geological Survey hydrogeologist and will be stationed in the Kentucky Geological Survey Western Kentucky Office at Henderson, Kentucky. The candidate will have the training and/or education & mechanical skills to collect runoff quantity data, precipitation data and surface water quality samples; operate and maintain precipitation, water quality & quantity sampling equipment, four-wheel drive trucks; develop weekly reports; lifting up to 50 pounds and hiking; have a valid driver's license; and be a team player. Candidate must have the ability to problem solve and be self motivated. Specific skills/needs of the job will be taught on site. Some overnight travel will be required at the project's expense.

Physical Requirements

Lifting objects up to 25 lbs, bending, squatting,sitting for long periods of time. Regular job-related travel and ability to drive a 4X4 vehicle.


Monday- Friday 8:00AM- 5:00PM (40 hours/wk) Possible Weekend and night work as needed.

Preferred Education/Experience

Prefer MS or BS degree with 2 years field experience (farm background, geology or forestry field course, internship or outdoor field education experience, etc.)

Valid Driver's License preferred.
