Reporting to the Dean of the School of Nursing & Behavioral Sciences, the Director is responsible for building upon the College mission of providing each student with a trans formative learning experience - anchored by academic excellence, social responsibility, and creative expression - that prepares graduates to thrive, contribute, and lead in a global society. The ideal candidate will actively work with the Dean on the enhancement of the nursing program, have demonstrated a record of building and maintaining an atmosphere of collegiality and transparency with a record of achievement in working with diverse populations of students that possess a broad base of learning needs. The Director will promote a learning environment that utilizes technology in the delivery of synchronous and asynchronous learning models that foster scholarly activities, including the use of hybrid and online instruction, support faculty development in the use of technology to enhance student engagement and learning opportunities as well as participate in outreach and expanding links with the local, regional, and national nursing, accreditation, and health care organizations. The context of these linkages includes academic planning and development. The Director is responsible to maintain and enhance the reputation of the Department of Nursing and work collaboratively with the Dean and nursing faculty in the maintenance of accreditation and related activities within and outside of the College.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Creates standards that sustain national accreditation of the nursing programs.
  • Promotes effective faculty performance and development in teaching and professional service through the implementation of evaluation processes based upon an appreciative inquiry approach.
  • Actively recruits students and seeks grant funding opportunities for the department.
  • Provides a trans formative leadership approach, direction, and support in implementing the mission, vision, strategic plan and core values of the Department of Nursing at Becker College.
  • Provides supervision, support, and coaching opportunities for direct reports and other members of the faculty team.
  • Develops and staffs the course schedules for the program, including the hiring and contracting of adjunct faculty.
  • Develops, communicates, and evaluates short and long-term strategic goals, outcomes, and initiative with those of the Department of Nursing.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Evaluates and revises nursing program curricula and oversees the program’s accreditation process
  • Actively recruits students and seeks grant funding opportunities for the department.

Skills/Qualifications

  • A PhD or other terminal degree in a Nursing related field is required.
  • An unencumbered nursing license in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Maintain an active professional portfolio of research, scholarly, and/or engagement in professional healthcare organizations.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience of teaching and managing in higher education.
  • An ability to support a culture of excellence in teaching, mentoring, and scholarship.
  • An ability to support and develop relationships with multiple constituents on local, regional, and national levels.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team, build effective relationships, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
