Adjunct Faculty, Mathematics
Adjunct faculty in the Mathematics and Physics Department will engage in teaching activities in accordance with the University's Faculty Workload and Promotion/Sabbatical Guidelines. Teaching responsibilities will include no more than 9 contact hours per semester (a total of 18 contact hours per academic year).
Department: School of the Sciences: Math & Physics
Master’s degree or higher in mathematics, math education or a related field plus college level teaching experience, with a strong commitment to quality teaching; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of mathematics and statistics. Demonstrated teaching ability in mathematics. Ability to instruct students of varying preparation and abilities. Experience working with Blackboard or a similar platform. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Familiarity with educational assessment practices. Strong commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community. Strong organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Familiarity with database management
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 9 contact hours per semester (18 contact hours per academic year). As part of Instructional Activity load: o Prepare courses in accordance with published faculty workload guidelines and with direction from the Course Coordinator. o Grade all assignments, quizzes, projects, and/or exams as described in the course syllabi o Hold office hours (minimum of 3 hours per week). o Meet with students as related to instructional activity. o Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly. o Participate in the assessment activities of the Department, School, and University. o Collegiality, as well as professional and ethical conduct, enhances teaching, learning and the general reputation of all persons in the academy. Therefore, all faculty members are expected to serve in a collegial fashion and in accordance with professional and ethical principles when dealing with other faculty members, students, administrators, and members of the public. o Every faculty member is guaranteed academic freedom in accordance with the statement on academic freedom and responsibilities of faculty members, as in the policy manuals.
