Financial Aid Specialist
General Description of Position: This position serves, on a day-to-day basis, as the primary contact for current as well as prospective students availing themselves of educational benefits made available by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) while attending Kansas State University. Information about the Department: The staff members in the Office of Student Financial Assistance serve students and their families now and throughout their time at Kansas State University. The Office of Student Financial Assistance awards more than $230 million in scholarships, federal, state, university, and private financial aid every year. Multicultural students account for 15 percent of our student population, a university record and continuing trend.Job Description: The position serves as a VA benefits certifying official responsible for processing and reporting VA benefits received. In addition, the position also monitors the receipt of non-VA, university wide sponsorships and waivers. Robust accounting and/or analytical skills represent critical attributes for this position. Familiarity with applying complex regulations to daily processes is essential. The position requires the utilization of K-State’s Student Information System, KSIS, as well as reports in reviewing, documenting, authorizing, and reconciling VA benefits, sponsorships, and waivers. Required Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a High School Diploma (or work equivalent). Must have three to five years of relevant work experience. Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience and/or familiarity with administering Veterans Affairs (VA) Educational Benefits highly preferred
- Experience in conducting informal advising/counseling sessions
- Employment of 2 – 3 years within an administrative office at a post-secondary institution of higher education Employment of 1 – 2 years within an Office of Student Financial Assistance
- Employment of 2 or more years within an administrative position requiring the completion of complex forms and/or the interpretation of complex regulations and/or the utilization of calculations/formulas as a job duty and/or high level of customer service.

$15.67 - $24.29 per hour

Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.
