I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

George Washington University has research in cutting edge projects in science and technology, health, public policy, global security, and the arts and humanities. Research and innovation are driving forces advancing GW as an academic institution and society as a whole. The Office of the Vice President for Research works diligently to strengthen existing initiatives and expand into new multidisciplinary fields. The position reporting to the Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research provides administrative support to the department. The Administrative Assistant plays a key role in the daily functions of the office. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Serves as receptionist at the front desk of the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) central office, receiving guests, and, monitoring and responding to inquiries from staff, faculty and the general public. Maintaining conference room schedules and preparing for meetings in the central office's conference room.

Coordinates and schedules OVPR sponsored events including reserving space, making catering arrangements, preparing for technological needs and room arrangement. This includes assisting with GW Research Days. Updating the webpage and social media content to advertise event. Creating and reviewing event materials and serving as point of contact for participants, guests and cooperating offices.

Prepares correspondence for the Vice President's signature under the supervision of the Special Assistant.

Performs special research and analyses for supervisor and suggests alternative policies, procedures, or work assignments to improve operations or to comply with changing legal or funding requirements. Prepares reports and spreadsheets for department or other University office use. Assists in the preparation of University Facilitating Fund intramural proposals, budgets, and quarterly research status reports.

Resolves routine administrative problems. Coordinates all office and equipment repairs. Inventories office supplies and equipment which includes assisting in the conduct of the annual inventory of technology equipment.

Trains new support staff in OVPR protocol and systems. Oversees assignment of student employees' assignments on ongoing projects.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience, is necessary plus 1.5 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Microsoft Office Applications, such as Excel, Word and Adobe Professional.
