PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

 

SUMMARY

The Professional Training and Development Coordinator is responsible for managing, creating, designing and implementing the administration and oversight of training and development programs for employees. The incumbent must be detail-oriented and possess excellent process and/or organizational skills and a program management background. Responsible for organizing, communicating, innovative, and perpetuating training and development offerings to employees. The incumbent provides administrative support to the Director of Human Resources. Frequent interaction with the Spelman community, vendors, and attorneys. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate various training opportunities for the college community utilizing various formats.
  • Manage and coordinate employee recognition program including the annual service awards event and administrative professionals’ day.
  • Manage and maintain the colleges’ conflict of interest process using We Comply.
  • Manage and facilitate harassment training, and may provide backup for new hire orientation.
  • Organize new and existing training programs to ensure the forward progress of the training and development program.
  • Plan, develop, and provide training classes and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of various methods such as classroom, web-based training, etc.
  • Conduct orientation sessions and regulatory compliance related training.
  • Develop evaluation procedures for the program and instructors, reviewing the results to make enhancement to the program.
  • Assist the Director of Human Resources with immigration and naturalization/labor certification matters and the production of student/employee records requests.  This includes the proper maintaining of immigration files and working closely with the immigration attorney.  
  • Develop and organize training materials and other educational materials.
  • Ensure programs and services offered are within approved budget.
  • Create various ad hoc and assessment reports such as courses offered, the number of participants enrolled, etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources or related field required.  A minimum of three to five years of experience in conducting, presenting and/or coordinating training; effectively communicating and collaborating with vendors, faculty, and staff both verbally and in writing; and maintaining records and databases and producing reports.  Banner knowledge is preferred. Experience in event planning and project management with creativity is a plus. Ability to create documents, announcements, etc. in publisher, power point is essential.

This position requires excellent verbal communication skills necessary for conducting training sessions/presentations and one-on-one interactions with faculty, staff, students, and external contacts.  Excellent written communication skills are also required for all forms of business correspondence (letters, emails, manuals, flyers, etc.). Must be capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. The position requires the ability to build strong relationships as well as knowledge and use of web-based training management systems. Individuals must possess a demonstrated ability to develop and implement value added, dynamic training and development, and programs.  The incumbent must create evaluation and assessment metrics to track training. Professional demeanor with the ability to interface with internal and external customers with diplomacy and tact is essential.  Independent judgment is necessary to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload with attention to detail.  In addition, must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.

This position requires intermediate level skills and may require advanced level skills in some applications of the Microsoft Suite (such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher) necessary for generating presentations, training communications pieces, reports, etc.  Must also have excellent computer skills when using various such engines for conducting research and email/calendar software such as Lotus Notes/Microsoft Outlook. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) is preferred, but not required.
